I promised myself that once I was down to 1.5 jobs instead of 2.5, I would begin posting more often. So here goes!
The most important thing about today is my anniversary with Magill – hello four years! This is an all-time best record for me! Despite the trials and tribulations of immigration hell, we’ve made it this far, and I think we still have a long and happy road ahead. Yay!
Gill, if you’re reading this: Happy Anniversary, Pumpkin Muffin!
On the business side of things, I have a rehearsal today. What sort of rehearsal? The sort that involves storytelling and banjo, of course! I have pretty much the coolest day job ever – I’m the artistic director of a storytelling organization. When I say storytelling, I mean people getting up and telling a story from memory with no written aid, just the magic of the oral tradition. The organization has over 200 events each year, so I’m a busy woman.
One of the events is a series at the National Arts Centre, which I’ve directed for three years, now. Our next show is coming up on the 19th and 20th – Stories and Songs from the Life of Pete Seeger. So today I’m off to watch them rehearse, and listen to great stories and songs about the Civil Rights Movement, the Hudson River, and communism!
Then tonight the hardcore geekery will be all consuming as I participate in a Magic the Gathering tournament with seven of my very fond friends. My elf and wolf deck is gonna kick some ass! And we’ll eat cake! Cake and elves!
And if you live in the northern region and have a garden, you might want to cover things up or bring them in tonight – it’s gonna be chilly. Protect the tomatoes!
